The Role

You'll be joining BMS's Drug Development Portfolio Strategy team, based out of our Warsaw hub - a growing, globally connected centre of excellence that's actively shaping the future of R&D analytics. This isn't a back-office reporting role. You'll be embedded at the intersection of data science, R&D strategy, and operational decision-making, working shoulder-to-shoulder with Program Management, R&D Finance, Investor Relations, BI&T, and Global Development Operations.

In plain terms: the insights you build will inform which pipeline programmes get prioritised, how risks are surfaced and mitigated, and how BMS's leadership understands the health of its drug development portfolio - from early-stage studies all the way through to late-stage delivery.

Your work won't sit in a folder. It'll sit in the room where decisions get made.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

• Turning Data Into Decisions
• You'll query, connect, and automate data flows across clinical, financial, and operational datasets using SQL, Power BI, and whatever tool gets the job done cleanly. You'll identify trends, surface risks, and spot opportunities across the R&D portfolio at the study, programme, and portfolio level. The prize? Fewer gut-feel decisions, more evidence-backed ones and your fingerprints on that shift.
• Building Analytics That Scale - You'll drive rapid prototyping and continuous improvement of standard reports and innovative intelligence tools - recommending and implementing automation that frees your colleagues (and yourself) from manual, repetitive extraction work. More time for insight, less time for data wrangling. That's the goal, and you'll own the roadmap to get there.
• Making Data Make Sense to Everyone - Here's the part that sets great analysts apart: you don't just find the insight - you make it land. You'll craft narratives using frameworks like the Pyramid Principle or SCR (Situation-Complication-Resolution), building visualizations and synthesizing insights that resonate whether your audience is a data scientist or a C-suite executive. You'll move portfolio conversations from debate to decision. That's a genuinely rare skill, and it's valued deeply here.
• Connecting Across Boundaries - You'll facilitate cross-divisional alignment sessions, build trusted peer relationships across functions, and ensure portfolio intelligence is shared, contextualised, and acted upon. You won't just be reporting on the portfolio - you'll be an active participant in shaping how the organisation thinks about it.
• Supporting Pipeline Reporting at Enterprise Scale - From corporate pipeline goals to external reporting, you'll support delivery reporting that spans the full BMS pipeline and you'll help evolve the digital tools that make that reporting faster, smarter, and more reliable over time.

What We're Looking For

Required - You'll Need These to Succeed Here

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Engineering/Computer Science, Business, Finance, or a related quantitative field
• 5+ years of progressive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with a focus on data analytics, operational planning, strategic insights, or business analytics
• Fluency in English (written and spoken)
• Proven track record of thriving in a matrixed, highly collaborative environment
• Hands-on experience with operational datasets spanning project timelines, financial data, and resourcing
• Strong interpersonal skills — you can motivate people, navigate conflict, and communicate clearly in writing and in person

Technical Skills

• Advanced SQL — complex queries, joins, subqueries, aggregations, across platforms like Databricks, AWS, SQL Server, or Snowflake
• Hands-on Power BI or Spotfire experience — building and deploying automated dashboards and reports, not just consuming them
• Data storytelling expertise — you know how to use frameworks like the Pyramid Principle or SCR to make data narratives stick
• Experience with low-code/no-code automation tools (e.g., Power Automate, Copilot agents) to build scalable workflows
• Advanced AI prompting skills — using tools like Claude or Microsoft Copilot to accelerate analysis and streamline work

Preferred - These Will Help You Hit the Ground Running

Experience

• Background in drug development, medical devices, biotechnology, or healthcare
• Experience in integrated programme planning, portfolio management, or finance management
• Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement initiatives from concept through implementation

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Python or R for statistical modelling, automation scripting, or API-based data ingestion
• Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, or Azure) and their integration with BI tools
• Working knowledge of clinical trial data structures, CTMS, or R&D operational systems such as Veeva, Planisware, or Anaplan

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. The final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience and in accordance with pay equity principles and applicable employment laws.
