Role Overview
This role sits within Private Wealth Technology and will design, build, and support modern, data-intensive web applications and internal tools used across our platforms. Working closely with both the technology team and the business partners we support, the Senior Associate will help translate business needs into scalable solutions spanning front-end development, data engineering, and system integrations.
Beyond technical depth, we're looking for someone with genuine curiosity about the business, motivated to understand how Blue Owl raises and deploys capital, how our platforms operate, and how the private wealth ecosystem works, so they can partner with the business as a trusted advisor rather than simply taking direction. This is a growth role: the Senior Associate will build deep platform and domain knowledge over time while working alongside more senior engineers and technology leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and support internal applications and data-intensive user interfaces for Private Wealth business and technology users, with guidance from senior team members.
- Build and contribute to modern web applications using React or comparable front-end frameworks, with a focus on clean user experience, maintainability, and scalability.
- Work with interactive data grids, filtering, exporting, and rich data views (e.g., AG Grid or similar libraries) under the direction of senior engineers.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, database views, and data models to support reporting, workflow, and operational needs.
- Support system integrations using REST APIs and secure data exchange practices.
- Work with Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Web Apps, Azure Functions, and Azure Data Factory, building working proficiency over time.
- Contribute to data platform and warehousing initiatives involving relational databases and cloud data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks.
- Partner with business stakeholders to clarify requirements and translate business processes into technical deliverables.
- Use AI tools to improve personal productivity in analysis, documentation, development, and troubleshooting, and help identify practical opportunities for AI within team workflows.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, testing, and knowledge-sharing with the broader team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- 4–5 years of experience in software engineering, application development, data engineering, or technology consulting.
- Experience building modern web applications and data-intensive user interfaces, using a modern front-end framework (React preferred).
- Strong grounding in data modeling, database design, building database views, and query performance optimization.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, including web apps, Azure Functions, and Azure Data Factory.
- Proficiency in SQL and relational databases; working knowledge of Python or a similar language.
- Experience with REST APIs and system integrations.
- Prior experience in financial services, asset management, or a related industry, with genuine interest in learning how an alternative asset management platform operates.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AG Grid or similar interactive data grid libraries.
- Familiarity with Azure identity, access, and networking concepts (e.g., Entra ID / Azure AD, RBAC, VNets).
- Exposure to cloud-based data platforms and data warehousing technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
- Cloud-native architecture and DevOps practices (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).
- Familiarity with enterprise data governance and data management practices.
- Experience with AI-powered applications, large language models, Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI, or similar technologies.
- Curiosity about the business — comfortable engaging with business stakeholders and motivated to understand how Blue Owl's platforms (Credit, Real Assets, GP Strategic Capital) and the private wealth distribution model work.
The base annual salary range for this New Jersey based position will be $125,000 to $145,000. Actual salary offered will be based on the candidate’s skill, experience, and qualification for the role.
