Purpose of the role
To provide data-led expert oversight and check and challenge on business and compliance matters to evidence that the organisation is operating in a compliance with Barclays legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities.
Accountabilities
- Identification and assessment of compliance risks through thorough reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing and systems to.
- Identification and investigation of potential market abuse, including but not limited to, Insider Dealing, Unlawful Disclosure, Market Manipulation or Anti-Competitive Conduct.
- Conduct investigation of compliance risk events or breaches. Oversight and check and challenge of corrective actions and preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.
- Implementation of compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and ensuring that the bank’s internal policies are aligned with international standards, including jurisdictional requirements.
- Collaboration with 1LOD, other relevant Compliance teams and legal, and relevant risk management functions to facilitate a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management.
- Identification, investigation and oversight of potential money laundering, terrorist financing or other financial crime.

Join us as Head of Compliance - Gift City branch Where you will be responsible for:
- Leading the Compliance function for the GIFT City Branch while acting as the designated Head of Compliance.
- Providing compliance advisory support and Financial Crime Compliance oversight across the GIFT City Branch.
- Designing and executing second line of defence testing, compliance monitoring, conduct risk assessments, and regulatory conformance reviews in line with IFSCA and Group requirements.
- Managing regulatory inspections, responding to regulatory queries, and ensuring compliance with IFSCA expectations.
- Assessing the impact of regulatory developments and advising senior management on regulatory changes affecting the business.
- Ensuring Group policies and local regulatory requirements are effectively implemented, embedded, and periodically reviewed.
- Partnering with the business to strengthen the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, with a focus on conduct risk.
- Advising senior business stakeholders on real-time compliance matters to ensure banking practices remain compliant with applicable regulations.
- Supporting engagement with regulators by providing policy feedback and representing compliance perspectives where required.
- Managing Financial Crime Compliance obligations, including filing Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and other regulatory reports.
- Escalating significant compliance matters and providing timely updates to regional management.
- Advising the business on cross-border regulatory and compliance matters relevant to the GIFT City Branch.
- Maintaining effective communication with senior management and business leaders on regulatory risks, policy updates, audits, inspections, and compliance breaches.
- Supporting regulatory examinations, investigations, and responses to regulatory inquiries.
- Leading the implementation of new regulatory initiatives, developing compliance policies and procedures, and delivering regulatory training to business teams.
- Reviewing new products through the New Product Approval process to ensure regulatory risks are identified and appropriately mitigated.
- Coordinating compliance activities for Internal Audit reviews and ensuring timely closure of compliance-related actions.
- Building strong relationships with Business Heads and governance forums to drive a robust compliance culture.
To be successful in this role, you should:
- Hold a graduate qualification with relevant experience suitable for an AVP-level role.
- Have strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks across Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, and Markets.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of IFSCA regulations, GIFT City regulatory requirements, and SEBI FPI regulations.
- Possess strong knowledge of the Indian regulatory environment and banking products.
- Be able to work closely with technology teams to develop practical compliance solutions.
- Have the ability to analyse complex transactions and communicate regulatory risks clearly to stakeholders.
- Demonstrate the ability to quickly understand new products, evolving regulations, and changing business requirements.
- Be confident in making independent compliance decisions, challenging business proposals where necessary, and escalating issues appropriately.
- Be detail-oriented with excellent stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills.
