Purpose of the role

To  lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

• Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
• Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
• Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
• Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
• Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

To be successful as an Engineering Lead, you should have experience with:

• Expertise in OO development (the key is strong OO server side development, particularly of distributed systems) along with Micro-services design and development C#.NET, Java or equivalent.
• Expertise in relational databases e.g. SQL /Postgres.
• Experience with Kafka and Mongo DB.
• Experience with devops/automation usage & implementation via TeamCity Or Jenkins Or Gitlab.
• Experience of directly working with end users and BAs to elicit requirements, and work through design.
• Building high performance applications that process large amounts of data.
• Good understanding of data models.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good communication and leadership skills. Strong stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with Enterprise Agile ( SAFE) ways of working.
• Experience with Test driven development using tools like NUnit or Junit or TSql-T or equivalent.
• Experience with Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) using tool like SpecFlow or equivalent.
• Experience with SAST analysis via SonarQube/WizCode or equivalent.
• Experience with AI enabled development via tools like Claude Code, Gitlab DUO.

Some other highly valued skills include:

• Investment banking / risk experience or Willingness and capacity to learn complex financial concepts relevant to the role.
• Experience with Containers via public cloud (e.g. AWS) or internal container platforms.
