The Optical Column department in Veldhoven develops advanced optical metrology systems for semiconductor manufacturing. In this internship, you contribute to improving a digital twin environment used to test and optimize algorithms. This digital twin supports faster development and validation of next-generation metrology systems. Your work helps improve performance and reliability in a highly competitive market. If you enjoy combining physics, data, and software, this internship offers a meaningful challenge.
In this assignment, you will enhance a simulation environment that mirrors real-world system behavior. You collaborate with engineers from optics and software teams to extend capabilities for data analysis and prediction. You will validate models using real system data and help improve insights for decision-making. Your main responsibilities will be:
Develop and optimize features of the digital twin environment
Compare simulation results with real measurement data to validate accuracy
Build data analysis tools and create clear visual dashboards
Design and run experiments to test hypotheses and system behavior
Propose improvements based on data, trade-offs, and system understanding
Present findings and document methods, results, and recommendations
Collaborate with experts to refine models and validate outcomes
This is a bachelor/master internship for minimum 6 months, minimum 4 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026 and is flexible.
To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in physics, optics, electrical engineering, or optical engineering
Have knowledge of optical systems, such as ray tracing or system modeling
Have experience with MATLAB or Python for data analysis and visualization
Are analytical and approach problems with structured reasoning
Are collaborative and communicate clearly in English
Other requirements you need to meet:
You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter needs to include the willingness to relocate.
If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
