We are establishing a new engineering organization from the ground up to build and operate Apple's next-generation data platform for customers in China. Our mission is to deliver a secure, scalable, and high-performance platform for data, analytics, and AI workloads while meeting regional regulatory and data residency requirements.
Working in close partnership with the global Apple Data Platform organization, you'll help bring world-class platform capabilities to China, maintain architectural consistency and operational excellence, and establish a long-term engineering presence that powers critical Apple businesses across the region.
As a Senior Engineering Manager within the Apple Data Platform organization, you will build and lead the engineering team responsible for establishing and operating the Apple Data Platform in China. This is a unique greenfield opportunity to recruit, grow, and lead a world-class engineering organization while building the platform that will power data, analytics, and AI workloads for customers in China.
Your team will be responsible for building, deploying, operating, and evolving the Apple Data Platform stack, ensuring it delivers the same reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence as the global platform while meeting regional regulatory and data residency requirements.
- Build and scale the Apple Data Platform engineering organization in China, recruiting, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team from the ground up.
- Lead the design, deployment, operation, and evolution of the Apple Data Platform for customers in China, solving large-scale distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and data platform challenges.
- Partner closely with global Apple Data Platform teams across the United States and China to deliver platform capabilities while maintaining architectural consistency and appropriate feature parity.
- Own the platform’s availability, performance, security, and operational health, driving engineering excellence across automation, observability, incident management, and infrastructure operations.
- Collaborate across engineering, infrastructure, security, product, and SRE organizations to deliver a seamless and reliable platform experience.
- Define and execute the long-term technical strategy for Apple’s data platform in China, balancing regional requirements with global platform standards.
- Help shape one of Apple’s strategic global infrastructure initiatives while fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- 10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or data platform technologies in production environments.
- 5+ years of engineering management experience leading high-performing software or infrastructure engineering teams.
- Proven experience recruiting, mentoring, and scaling engineering organizations.
- Strong technical expertise in cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes, distributed systems, and modern infrastructure architectures.
- Experience building and operating highly available, secure, and scalable platforms serving large-scale production workloads.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives across software engineering, infrastructure, security, and SRE organizations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical strategy across geographically distributed teams.
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience building or operating data, analytics, or AI platforms at enterprise scale.
- Experience deploying and operating platforms across public cloud providers (Alibaba Cloud, AWS, GCP) and private cloud or on-premises environments.
- Experience with technologies such as Kubernetes, Spark, Ray, Kafka, Trino, Iceberg, or other modern data platform technologies.
- Experience building engineering organizations or leading greenfield platform initiatives.
- Experience operating services in regulated environments with data residency, security, or compliance requirements.
- Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams and delivering platforms across multiple regions.
- Passion for building world-class engineering teams and fostering an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture.
