Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a self-motivated, high-judgment, well-connected, and experienced communications leader to join its APJC team, leading communications in Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong (CMHK).
The right candidate possesses extensive media relations experience, is an expert communicator adept at synthesizing and translating complex concepts, including technology, into broadly digestible information, is an experienced people manager, has successfully delivered executive communications programs, and can exercise high-judgment decisions while acting quickly and collaboratively.
The candidate must have proven experience managing communications functions in China, including managing agencies and regional budgets. The AWS Comms CMHK will partner across the AWS business to develop internal and external communications plans, processes, and best practices, as well as manage issues, provide strategic counsel, and execute a variety of strategic communications campaigns.
This role reports directly to the Head of Communications, APJC and is a key member of the AWS Communications APJC leadership team. You will partner closely with regional peers across Japan, Korea, India, Southeast Asia, and Australia & New Zealand to drive a cohesive and ambitious communications agenda across the region. In addition to its responsibilities for CMHK, this role is responsible for Regional Strategic Operations across the AWS Communications team in APJC, including region wide reporting and insights, and strategic and operational planning processes—helping to shape how the broader team operates, measures impact, and scales best practice.

Key job responsibilities
CMHK Leadership
• Manage and coach a team across CMHK, setting clear goals, fostering growth, and maintaining high standards of execution
• Define, develop, and oversee end-to-end execution of communications strategy and programs for CMHK, from annual planning and goal-setting through to delivery, measurement, and iteration
• Ensure a consistent, high-impact, and factually accurate representation of AWS in CMHK media, underpinned by strong relationships with top-tier Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong media, key opinion leaders, technology influencers, and industry analysts
• Plan and lead proactive media relations programs and campaigns that generate meaningful coverage and position AWS as a trusted technology leader in the region
• In particular, develop and execute high-impact technology and innovation campaigns that showcase AWS customer stories about emerging technologies and how AWS helps customers build, innovate, and grow
• Lead communications strategy and execution for large-scale events—encompassing media relations, executive positioning, customer storytelling, content production, and on-site execution
• Lead crisis communications and issues management for CMHK, including rapid response protocols, stakeholder coordination, scenario planning, and proactive reputation risk mitigation
• Regularly interact with CMHK senior leadership to influence strategy and negotiate decisions in relation to issues, announcements, and messaging
• Provide executive communications support to senior Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong-based business leaders including the co-VP of APJC based in China, and visiting executives on reputation, messaging, and communications opportunities
• Work with cross-functional communications leads and business teams to ensure effective in-country execution of relevant campaigns and activities
• Engage cross-functionally to plan and execute communications approaches, especially with marketing, public policy, analyst relations, and business development teams—including partnering with Public Policy teams on policy communications strategies and complex regulatory narratives
Regional Strategic Operations
• Drive the strategic and operational planning cadence for the APJC Communications function, including goal-setting, annual and quarterly planning cycles, and performance reporting to regional and global leadership
• Lead media operations and reporting across the region, establishing consistent measurement frameworks and translating coverage data into recommendations that inform future campaigns
• Champion cross-team coordination and build the operational processes that enable the APJC Communications team to work faster, smarter, and more cohesively—sharing best practice and driving rigour and consistency in how the team plans, executes, and measures impact
Basic Qualifications
- 12+ years of professional communications, public relations, or public affairs experience
- Demonstrated expertise in media relations, with an established network of media contacts across CMHK
- Experience in enterprise or business-to-business technology communications
- Experience in policy communications, issues management, and crisis communications
- Experience planning and delivering large-scale integrated communications programs for major events
- Experience in operational and strategic planning, including annual planning cycles, goal-setting, budget ownership, and performance reporting
- People management experience, including leading and developing communications teams
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Mandarin
- Outstanding attention to detail, understanding of technology, and ability to communicate complex topics effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing integrated communications campaigns around cloud computing, AI or emerging digital technologies
- Experience representing high-profile companies in fast-paced, complex, high-stakes environments
- Experience in executive media training and spokesperson development
- Experience working across borders in regional or global teams
