Amazon is seeking a senior commercial leader to join our Prime Video content team and grow the Prime Video SVOD business in Germany. This individual will be responsible for defining and executing the content acquisition strategy for Prime Video's subscription video-on-demand service in Germany, building a best-in-class content portfolio that drives customer engagement, acquisition, and retention.
In addition to strong negotiation skills and deep experience in the German media and entertainment market, the ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a proven track record in content licensing, deal structuring, and portfolio management. S/he has experience negotiating complex, multi-year agreements with both US Major Studios and local production companies, developing business cases for content investments, and delivering results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. S/he must have the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team, communicate clearly and concisely at all levels of the organization, and think beyond his/her direct sphere of responsibility.
Key job responsibilities
- Own and execute the SVOD content acquisition strategy for Prime Video Germany, including Pay-1 output deals, library film & TV licenses, first-run exclusive series (1RLs), and co-productions
- Build and manage a cross-genre content portfolio that maximizes customer engagement and viewing hours while meeting efficiency targets
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate first-run license series and co-production opportunities with local and international partners and production companies
- Serve as Amazon's primary negotiating counterpart with US Major Studios (e.g., NBCU, Sony, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount) and leading German distribution partners, production companies, and broadcasters
- Own the annual content budget and multi-year investment plan; actively participate in Amazon's operating planning cycles
- Deliver regular reporting on key business metrics, content performance, deal pipeline status, and budget utilization to senior leadership
- Build and lead a team of Content Acquisition Managers, setting strategic priorities and developing talent
- Establish scalable deal-making processes and partner management structures to ensure portfolio quality and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with internal teams across Programming, Marketing, Legal, Finance, and Product
- Use customer behavior, viewership data, and performance analytics to inform content investment decisions
- Work with in-house and external legal counsel on deal structuring and contract execution
Basic Qualifications
- Experience developing and managing a high-performing team
- Experience working and communicating with multiple stakeholders, C-level executives and cross-functional teams
- Speak, write, and read fluently in German and English at C1 level or above
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
- Deep knowledge of the German media landscape, including key studios, production companies, broadcasters, and regulatory frameworks
- Track record of managing multi-million-dollar content budgets with demonstrated cost discipline and ROI orientation
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data (e.g., viewership metrics, financial modeling) to inform content investment decisions
- Experience in SVOD/OTT platforms or digital media businesses with a strong understanding of subscription economics
- Established network of industry relationships
- Passion for content and entertainment with strong creative instincts
