Industry Specialist, Capital Markets and Banking, APJ Financial Services Industry Development, AWS

AWS is seeking an experienced Senior Industry Specialist – Capital Markets and Banking to join the APJ Financial Services Industry (FSI) Business Unit, based in Seoul, South Korea. In this role, you will be the trusted industry advisor for South Korea's leading exchanges, securities firms, broker-dealers, asset managers, hedge funds, wealth managers, and banks — helping them accelerate business transformation through AI, Agentic AI, and Cloud technologies on AWS.
Financial services globally are at an inflection point: Generative AI, Agentic AI, and tokenisation of real-world assets are fundamentally reshaping how capital markets operate — from trading and settlement to risk management and client engagement. Korea is at the forefront of this shift, with regulators and institutions actively embracing digital asset infrastructure, and AI-driven automation. This role sits at the intersection of these trends, helping customers reimagine their business models and accelerate new capabilities enabled by Cloud.
This role is ideally suited to someone with experience in buy-side or sell-side financial institutions, or banking, who believes that Generative AI, Agentic AI, tokenisation, and Cloud will be the primary drivers of growth and transformation across financial services in Korea.

Key job responsibilities
• Drive Capital Markets and Banking adoption of AWS AI and Cloud technologies across all South Korean customers in the segment
• Apply deep industry expertise to accelerate customer Business Transformation, AI, and Cloud journeys — delivering market insight, tailored presentations, and actionable recommendations
• Partner with the Sales team (Korea FSI Account Managers, Solutions Architects) to identify and shape opportunities, then actively support progression through the sales cycle
• Engage business and technology stakeholders at all levels, including Heads of Trading, Chief Risk Officers, Chief Investment Officers, Heads of Digital Assets, Heads of Technology, and COOs at Korean financial institutions
• Build long-term, trusted advisor relationships with customers, positioning AWS as a strategic partner for their business transformation — not just a technology vendor
• Develop and execute geographic sales strategy for Capital Markets and Banking in Korea — including AI-led Sales Packages, industry narratives, and go-to-market accelerators
• Proactively identify and apply emerging AWS and partner technologies (Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker, Step Functions, blockchain/DLT services) to Capital Markets and Banking use cases, translating innovation into customer-relevant solutions
• Collaborate with AWS industry and specialist teams (global and APJ) to scale successful AI and tokenisation initiatives, share best practices, and triage opportunities
• Support executive engagement — lead executive briefings, participate in industry events, and align AWS solutions with customer business transformation goals
• Manage a portfolio of proactive and reactive accounts — approximately 5 proactive strategic accounts (~33% of time), with the remainder split between reactive requests and industry strategy development

A day in the life
The role balances business development with deep domain expertise, always centred on helping customers transform their business through AI and Cloud. On any given day you might:
• Lead an executive briefing with a Korean securities firm's CIO on how Agentic AI can automate trade surveillance workflows and enable autonomous compliance monitoring
• Collaborate with Solution Architects to design compliant-by-design architectures covering cryptography, key management, and tokenisation infrastructure for a customer launching a security token platform
• Lead a workshop with a bank's digital assets team on building a tokenisation platform for real-world assets (bonds, real estate) using AWS services
• Support Korea FSI account teams on positioning AI-led transformation — connecting Generative AI capabilities to customer pain points such as trade lifecycle automation, intelligent risk analytics, and personalised wealth advisory
• Develop an industry Sales Package showing how Agentic AI on AWS can orchestrate end-to-end post-trade settlement, reducing T+1 operational risk
• Join a regional call with APJ and global Capital Markets specialists to share customer wins on AI adoption patterns

About the team
The AWS APJ Financial Services Industry Development (FSI) team supports one of AWS's largest and highest growth industry segment across Asia Pacific and Japan. The team spans banking, insurance, capital markets, and payments across multiple APJ geographies, with a strong focus on security, compliance, and innovation. Priority areas include Generative AI, Agentic AI, operational resilience, customer experience transformation, tokenisation and digital assets, and real-time analytics — helping financial institutions modernize and transform their businesses on AWS.

Basic Qualifications

- 10+ years of solving problems with technology in the Global Financial Services Industry experience
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
- Experience in Go-To-Market, Business Development, Sales, or Consulting
- Experience partnering with executive-level leaders to identifying and solving business issues
- Demonstrable understanding of AI/ML, Generative AI, or Agentic AI and their application to financial services business problems
- Fluent in Korean (native or bilingual); professional English proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience as a founder or executive focused on related segments, or as a practice leader or business unit owner
- Experience selling to Fortune 1000 or Global 2000 organizations
- Front-office experience at a securities firm, exchange, asset manager, bank, or fintech in Korea
- Deep familiarity with Korean financial regulatory landscape (FSC, FSS, KISA) including digital asset regulations
- Understanding of capital markets infrastructure: trading systems, market data, risk management, post-trade processing, and cryptographic key management
- Existing relationships within the Korean financial services ecosystem
- Experience with tokenisation, digital assets, security token offerings (STOs), or blockchain/DLT in financial services
- Bachelor's degree; advanced degree (MBA, CFA, FRM) is a plus
