Amazon built world-class finance and accounting machinery to run its own business at scale. Finance as a Service (FaaS) is turning that machinery into a product: end-to-end back-office finance and accounting, delivered to sellers and partners as a service. Customers get Amazon-grade accuracy, controllership, and compliance without building it themselves. We run accounts payable, accounts receivable, record-to-report, and tax operations for a growing roster customers today.
The systems that power FaaS today are highly specialized, built to run Amazon's own books and in many ways add odds what other businesses really want and need. FaaS the a product will benefit from an operations stack built with multi-tenancy, data isolation, multi-auditor control support built into its foundation from the start. FaaS must scale from large multinationals down to small local business, and its technology must be similarly geared. Scaling FaaS into a durable business requires a deliberate long-term strategy, and this includes the technology that powers it.
As Principal Product Manager - Technical for FaaS, you own that strategy. You will lead end-to-end technical due diligence on our existing platforms, define the target multi-year architecture and roadmap, drive build-buy-partner trade-offs, and drive the right investment cases through the organization. This is a zero-to-one charter inside an established finance organization, with company-level visibility and broad influence across Amazon Finance, AWS, and the Selling Partner ecosystem.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the technology strategy and multi-year platform roadmap for FaaS as a product, feeding directly into FaaS's and FinOps' broader strategy.
- Lead comprehensive technical due diligence on the existing stacks: document current-state systems and dependencies; identify internal and partner capabilities that can be leveraged, integrated, or extended; evaluate the external landscape; and define the build-buy-partner path for each capability area.
- Define the target architecture for a multi-tenant finance platform that enforces strict per-customer data isolation, exceeds all audit and controllership standards, and supports complex regulatory needs, for example, multi-jurisdiction tax and statutory compliance.
- Drive build-buy-partner, and integrate decisions with clear technical and economic reasoning; where scale demands it, reduce single-threaded reliance on internal technologies, drawing commercialization lessons from AWS.
- Make the case for the technology investments needed to deliver the strategy, including unit economics and cost-to-serve, and drive buy-in from senior leadership.
- Shape the technical strategy to launch new new FaaS products offerings in partnership with operators.
- Partner across internal engineering organizations including FinAuto, FinTech, AWS, Selling Partner Services, Tax, Accounting, Controllership. Work with external vendors to align on and deliver necessary capabilities and optimizations.
- Define the metrics that measure FaaS technology success: automation and productivity gains, cost-to-serve, time-to-onboard new customers, accuracy and compliance, and reliability.
- Build narratives for vision and strategy, PRFAQs, roadmaps, and business review to align the organization and inform high-velocity decision-making.
