Key job responsibilities
- Lead and develop multiple software development teams, including managing other engineering managers, to deliver scalable infrastructure solutions that support AWS global data center operations
- Define and execute the long-term technical strategy, resource planning, and organizational structure for your teams, making critical decisions on hiring, team composition, and succession planning that enable sustainable growth
- Establish and drive operational excellence across your organization by implementing mechanisms for monitoring, alarming, incident response, and continuous improvement that ensure high availability and performance
- Partner with Principal Engineers, Applied Scientists, and cross-functional stakeholders to align architectural decisions with business objectives and product roadmaps, ensuring solutions meet both current and future needs
- Set and balance organizational goals that optimize for customer outcomes, engineering quality, and employee development while fostering an inclusive environment where team members grow their technical and leadership capabilities
A day in the life
You'll start your day reviewing operational metrics across your teams, identifying opportunities to improve system performance and reliability. You'll spend time in technical design reviews, partnering with Principal Engineers to evaluate architectural tradeoffs for new features. Throughout the day, you'll coach your engineering managers on handling team challenges, conduct one-on-ones with senior engineers to support their growth, and facilitate cross-team collaboration sessions. You'll also work on strategic planning documents that shape the multi-year roadmap for SCos, balancing technical innovation with business priorities.

Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering team management experience
- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications
