We're looking for a Software Development Engineer to help us build the future of network availability at unprecedented scale.
Key job responsibilities
As an SDE II in TrafficShift, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining AWS's foundational networking service that enables rapid event mitigation and safe deployment of configuration updates across Amazon's global network infrastructure.
-You will design and implement significant components and features that ensure network reliability, working within the Global Connectivity and Network Availability organization.
-This role requires strong technical expertise in distributed systems and programming, as you'll be responsible for creating performant, stable, and maintainable solutions that scale across AWS's worldwide infrastructure.
-You will collaborate with network engineers and various stakeholders, participate in architectural discussions, mentor junior team members, and contribute to operational excellence through code reviews, system optimization, and best practices implementation.
-The ideal candidate should be able to make pragmatic technical decisions, balance customer requirements with team needs, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills while maintaining AWS's high standards for reliability and performance.

TrafficShift is a team based in Dublin and Seattle. We own the systems that protect AWS's global network, shifting traffic away from impaired devices in seconds to keep customers connected.
We operate like a startup inside AWS — moving fast, shipping often, and solving hard problems together. You'll collaborate closely with network engineers across the organization, and your work will have immediate, visible impact on AWS reliability worldwide.

Basic Qualifications
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems, or experience in computer architecture
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations, or experience managing teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals, including architecture, training/inference lifecycles, and optimization of model execution, or experience in computer architecture
- Experience in professional software engineering & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
