AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we're looking for talented people who want to help.
You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
AWS Supply Chain Management (SCM) Team is building next-generation enterprise supply chain products on native AWS from the ground up. Come and be part of the team that enables Amazon AWS to rapidly grow and continue to be the pioneer and widely recognized leader in Cloud Computing, and have immediate impact on the thousands of developers and businesses around the world.
Every piece of hardware that powers AWS, from custom silicon to servers to networking equipment, has a lifecycle from concept to obsolescence. Managing that lifecycle at AWS scale is one of the hardest data management challenges in the industry. Our team builds the next-generation software that serves as the source of truth for hardware product data across AWS Infrastructure. It is a multi-tenant, multi-region system and powers the schema and structure of every physical component in our supply chain. We are looking for a high-caliber Software Development Manager to lead one of our engineering teams.
Who would succeed in this role:
- A deeply technical leader who stays close to the customer as well as the software and architecture that power the customer experience. You are energized by building systems that are both technically sophisticated and deeply impactful to the business.
- A leader who coaches their team on developing systems at scale and for the right customer experience, and who reaches out across the company to enlist input from key engineers, supply chain specialists, and research scientists to leverage the experience of the broader team. You build alignment across organizational boundaries and turn diverse perspectives into a shared technical direction.
- A leader who dives deep into a problem to understand how things work, when to make a subtle change, and when to disrupt the status quo to achieve the right results. You are comfortable operating at multiple altitudes: one moment you are whiteboarding a multi-region replication strategy with your principal engineer, the next you are coaching a newer engineer through their first operational event.
- A leader who cares about their people as much as the customers. You create clarity for your team in ambiguous situations. You set a high bar but invest in helping everyone reach it. You default to trust and ownership, giving engineers the autonomy to make decisions while ensuring the right guardrails are in place.
Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of senior engineers building services and user interfaces that operate across multiple AWS regions. You will drive product strategy, roadmap, and stakeholder engagement while mentoring and managing a team of Software Development Engineers. You will contribute to and lead design, architecture, process, and development discussions, and champion the right outcomes with data, conviction, and diplomacy. You will drive operational excellence, build scalable mechanisms to audit and inspect cross-functional initiatives, remove barriers, and make decisions.
About the team
Our team is a group of builders who care deeply about both craft and impact. We value pragmatic engineering, rigorous thinking, and a bias toward action.
