The Dangerous Goods (DG) team is looking for a motivated Risk Manager with strong regulatory experience in transportation, operational and logistics knowledge, and a hands-on passion to dive-deep into processes to support Amazon’s growth in a safe environment for customers, partners, and associates.
This Risk Manager will be required to plan and execute DG policies, controls, and processes to ensure safe and compliant transportation of DG across the Air Network. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, transportation service providers, consultants and regulators, this role will be responsible for driving safety and compliance across customer deliveries, enabling new selection, and expanding business and air transportation models. This Rick Manager will need to develop accurate and relevant metric-driven analysis to foster continuous improvement and step-function innovation that will enhance our internal and external customer experience.
The role requires the ability to work cross-functionally across Amazon Air, operational and technical teams, to ensure the safety of our customers, associates and carrier partners by delivering innovative solutions for the safe and compliant transportation of DG.
This role will represent DG risk management programs to internal and external stakeholders alongside building relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, industry associations, and alliance partners to promote and advocate Amazon’s commitment to safety excellence.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to work across senior levels of leadership in multiple organizations to align on policy and proposed controls, as well as deliver at a high bar for quality. This Risk Manager will demonstrate excellent judgment, communication skills, instincts in decision-making and proactively and continually improve their level of knowledge about Amazon’s business and relevant technologies.

Key job responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
• Drive scalable solutions to ensure compliance with external regulatory and internal requirements
• Maintain subject matter expertise in IATA and 49CFR regulations to guide operations and new business opportunities
• Conduct audits of Amazon nodes and 3rd party service providers to ensure DG compliance
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with regulators and industry trade bodies
Strategic Leadership
• Partner with senior leadership to design and implement safety controls and compliance processes
• Provide strategic recommendations for organizational risk mitigation
• Advise leadership on emerging industry trends and regulatory impacts on business strategy
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the DG transportation system
Project Management
• Manage complex DG transportation projects, breaking them into achievable milestones
• Identify and address project bottlenecks while balancing business needs with operational constraints
• Develop and refine processes to efficiently track and prioritize issues at scale
Stakeholder Management
• Build collaborative relationships with leaders across regions, departments, and business units
• Engage proactively with business partners to align support with their roadmap and deliverables
A day in the life
Working independently and autonomously analysing data ensuring adherence with internal DG policies as well as external regulations. Risk assessing DG controls within the Air transportation network, presenting non compliance to key stakeholders. Collaborating with business enablement partners reviewing and approving business expansion initiatives. Driving and creating safety and compliance improvements within DG internal policies and controls.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience
- 5+ years of program or project Management experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
- Master's degree or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in Dangerous Good compliance (preferably aviation or air cargo)
- ICAO, IATA, or region specific accredited (i.e. US DOT 49CFR, IOSA or similar)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
