The global accounting organization supports our financial reporting, internal control, intercompany, and transfer pricing activities and also supports new business launches globally for Amazon in the consumer products, initiatives, merchant, operations, logistics, payments, and cloud computing lines of business.
We are currently looking for a senior level candidate to help support the business growth in Amazon’s Sao Paulo, Brazil office. Successful candidates may have held senior analyst or accounting coordination or finance positions in public or private companies and demonstrated experience in leading teams to accomplish unusually complex challenges is also expected.
This position will have responsibility for supporting the Latam Accounting team to oversee all parts of our financial accounting and reporting functions in the region, reporting to a senior manager. In addition, this person will be expected to understand internal control design concepts sufficient to assess the effectiveness of controls in their area and to influence the design of systems, processes and controls for emerging and growing business activities.
Key job responsibilities
• Manage the period-end close process by ensuring accurate and timely completion of all revenue accounting entries and reconciliations for assigned AWS services, including preparation and review of complex journal entries related to revenue.
• Oversee key revenue lifecycle events including new product launches and contract modifications.
• Prepare Accounting Requirement Documents for project launches.
• Drive revenue accounting projects, provide guidance on revenue recognition, and serve as a key point of contact for finance and business partners to resolve revenue-related issues.
• Consult with business partners to identify relevant stakeholders and potential issues on new project launches.
• Research and document revenue accounting concepts. Develop understanding of AWS transaction flows and systems affecting revenue recognition.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of revenue-related balances and provide explanations of account movements to support financial reporting.
• Create robust analytics demonstrating understanding of revenue streams and relationships between entities.
• Technical accounting research and technical memo writing may also be a requirement for this position.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification
- Speak, write, and read fluently in English
- Can demonstrate strong numerical and analytical skills
- Knowledge of one or multiple accounting frameworks (including US GAAP, IFRS, or local GAAP frameworks), with the ability to apply them in day-to-day financial activities
- Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients
- Experience working with Excel, reporting tools, and large-scale data mining tools, such as Power BI, Python, SQL, or Tableau
- Experience in creating process improvements with automation and analysis
