Senior Application Architect, Professional Services

At Amazon Web Services (AWS), we're hiring a highly technical database specialist to help our customers develop technical expertise and capacity, while also collaborating with our customers and partners on key engagements. Our consultants will deliver pilot projects, topical workshops, and lead implementation projects using database expertise.

Professional Services engage in a wide variety of projects for customers, providing collective experience from across the AWS customer base and are obsessed about strong success for the Customer. Our team collaborates across the entire AWS organization to bring access to product and service teams, to get the right solution delivered and drive feature innovation based upon customer needs.

Key job responsibilities
We are looking for a senior level of candidate with hands on developers who are passionate about:
• Helping customers architect scalable, highly available application solutions that leverage AWS services
• Architecting and developing customer applications to be cloud optimized
• Working as a technical leader along side customer business, development and infrastructure teams.
• Providing deep software development knowledge with respect cloud architecture, design patterns and programming
• Advising and implementing AWS best practices
• Working as both an infrastructure and application development specialist
• Agile software development and DevOps
• Implementing DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code, continuous integration and automated deployment

This is a customer facing role. You will be required to travel to client locations and deliver professional services as needed.

The Professional Services team at AWS is responsible for assisting enterprise customers as they shift to the cloud by incorporating our services into their overall architecture. We work hand-in-hand with customer teams and AWS partners to provide deep expertise in the architecture, design, development, and implementation of cloud computing initiatives that result in real business outcomes. As part of our team, you’ll accelerate the adoption of our products all while advocating for the success of our customers.

Basic Qualifications

- 10+ years of technical specialist, design and architecture experience
- 7+ years of database (eg. SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Kinesis) experience
- 7+ years of external or internal customer facing, complex and large scale project management experience
- Bachelor's degree, or 7+ years of professional or military experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in internal enterprise or external customer-facing environment as a technical lead
- Experience in heterogeneous database migration (e.g., Oracle to Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL, SQL Server to open-source engines)
- Experience and technical expertise (design and implementation) in AWS cloud database and migration services (DMS, SCT, Aurora, DynamoDB)
- Experience leading end-to-end database modernization projects at scale, from assessment to production deployment
