The Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) Buying team is at the heart of Amazon's global inventory management. We build sophisticated automated systems that decide what to buy, when to buy it, and where to place billions of dollars in inventory across Amazon's vast network. These decisions directly impact Amazon's ability to delight customers and drive operational efficiency. Join us to solve technical challenges at massive scale, shaping the core of Amazon's retail business through data-driven decisions.
As a Business Intelligence Engineer I in SCOT Buying Analytics, you will build data solutions across Amazon's diverse buying programs, including Just in Time, Advanced Purchasing, and Global Ordering. You'll create queries, reports, dashboards, and analyses that provide insights into Access to Supply metrics, supporting key decisions in buying and sourcing strategies. This role requires technical skills to work with large datasets and the ability to learn and apply best practices in data management and analytics. You'll collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and other Business Intelligence Engineers to deliver solutions that answer business questions. You'll work on well-defined problems with guidance from team members, building your expertise in Amazon's data infrastructure and business processes.
Key job responsibilities
- Build BI solutions including data sets, queries, reports, dashboards, and analyses to answer business questions
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and other BIEs to understand requirements and deliver data solutions
- Analyze relevant business data, identify trends, and communicate findings to stakeholders
- Build and maintain data structures, ETL processes, and reports that correctly answer business questions using SQL and analytics visualization tools such as QuickSight
- Investigate data anomalies, troubleshoot issues in reports and data pipelines, and automate manual processes where possible to improve efficiency
- Document solutions clearly to ensure ease of use, interpretation, and maintainability by others, and seek input and guidance from team members on both technical approaches and business understanding
A day in the life
You might start your day working with a senior team member to learn how to optimize a SQL query for better performance. You would then build a report or dashboard that answers a specific business question about inventory availability. Later, you could participate in a team meeting to scope requirements for a new analysis project or investigate a data quality issue in an existing report. You might also spend time documenting your work, attending a training session on AWS technologies, or collaborating with a Product Manager to understand the business context behind a new metric request.
