Amazon Leo is a long-term Amazon initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), providing low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
As a Hardware Development Engineer, you will design next-generation phased array antenna systems that enable our satellite constellation. You'll own key hardware blocks end-to-end from architecture and prototyping, to validation. You will work alongside antenna, systems, and software engineers to build antennas that have to work flawlessly once they reach orbit.
Export Control Requirement
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities
- Architect and design key blocks within next-generation phased array antenna systems
- Partner with RF engineers to develop the RF circuitry and signal chains that drive our phased arrays
- Build and test proof-of-concept prototypes to validate new antenna architectures before committing to production designs
- Review PCB layout to ensure designs are both high-performing and manufacturable at scale
- Use Linux-based tools to command and operate the phased array during bring-up, integration, and test
- Define test strategies for new designs, working with test engineering to translate design intent into bring-up plans and validation criteria
- Verify designs meet performance targets, then iterate based on results
- Collaborate with RF, software, and systems engineers to integrate new hardware into the broader antenna system
- Partner with supply chain and production teams to prepare new designs for high-volume manufacturing
- Drive design trade-offs across performance, cost, schedule, and manufacturability
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
- 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering, antenna design, or RF/analog circuit design
- Experience designing and reviewing analog, digital, or high-speed circuits, including schematic capture and PCB layout
- Experience with RF measurement equipment, including power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, network analyzers, or oscilloscopes
- Experience taking a hardware design from concept through prototyping and bring-up
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field
- Experience with EM simulation tools (e.g., CST, HFSS, ADS) for antenna or RF circuit design
- Experience designing phased array or antenna systems for aerospace, defense, or telecommunications applications
- Experience with hardware/software integration and real-time systems
- Knowledge of at least one modern programming or scripting language such as C, C++, Python, or MATLAB
