Amazon's Worldwide Grocery Retail Growth & Development (WWRGD), Enterprise Design team is seeking a Senior Design Manager to own the end-to-end design function of the PERF (Project and Equipment Request Form) program across our entire grocery store fleet.
This is an exciting role for a design leader who can operate at the intersection of design quality and operational scale. You are the right person for this job if you are a creative problem solver with a passion for customers, strong program management instincts, and the ability to drive high-volume design work efficiently and consistently. In this role, you will own the entire Design PERF workstream — from deciding which projects need design, to prioritizing and resourcing the work, to executing and delivering design solutions for equipment replacements, brand refreshes, and other in-store improvement projects. Not every PERF project requires design intervention, and a key part of this role is building the judgment and systems to identify which ones do and get them done well.
You will serve as the primary design partner to the PERF Construction Management team, equipment and procurement partners, and store operations stakeholders. You will define the standards and toolkits that make design delivery repeatable at scale, and you will be the senior design voice for the program, ensuring every project is grounded in strong design thinking and delivered efficiently. We are looking for someone who is comfortable moving quickly, communicating clearly at all levels, and taking end-to-end ownership in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
We are a fast-moving business unit where everyone is entrepreneurial, wears many hats, and works effectively in a highly collaborative environment. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver with strong program management instincts, a passion for customers, and the ability to build scalable design systems that work across a high-volume portfolio.
Key job responsibilities
- End-to-End Workstream Ownership: Own the entire Design PERF workstream, establishing the processes and standards that govern how design requests are received, prioritized, resourced, and delivered.
- Design Intake and Prioritization: Establish criteria for which PERF projects require design intervention and own prioritization across the portfolio, triaging requests by urgency, strategic importance, and operational impact
- Resourcing: Match project needs to internal and external design capacity and proactively identify gaps.
- Design Execution: Lead and execute design work for PERF scope, equipment replacements, breakroom and restroom refreshes, and in-store improvement projects to brand standards and operational requirements.
- Design Standards and Toolkits: Develop and maintain scalable design standards and toolkits for PERF project types, enabling consistent, repeatable solutions across the fleet.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Serve as the primary design counterpart to Construction, equipment, and procurement partners, providing guidance and documentation from intake through installation.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with store leaders, Operations, Area leadership, and WWRGD partners to align on scope, priorities, and design intent.
- Process Improvement and Reporting: Identify and implement process efficiencies, track design delivery KPIs, and provide regular status updates to WWRGD leadership.
A day in the life
If you thrive in a dynamic, high-volume environment where design rigor and operational pace must coexist, then we want to talk to you. A typical day involves triaging new PERF design requests, advancing active design packages, and coordinating with the Capital Planning and Construction teams to ensure design handoffs are clean and complete. You will regularly interface with store operations leaders to ground design decisions in real store context, partner with procurement on equipment specifications, and advance process improvements that help the team scale. This role requires both design judgment and program management discipline — you will need to move quickly, communicate clearly, and maintain quality across a portfolio of hundreds of active projects at any given time.
